4 Common CZ Swamp Magnum Problems You Should Know

Last Update:

So, I took the CZ Swamp Magnum out for some field testing, and let me tell you, I learned a lot.

This shotgun looks great on paper, but using it firsthand allowed me to dig deeper into what it offers.

While it has some strong points, I also ran into a couple of CZ Swamp Magnum Problems we need to discuss. I’m talking about serious concerns like safety issues, double firing, choke tube problems, and even failures to fire.

I’ll help you understand these common problems and offer solutions that will make your experience with the CZ Swamp Magnum as smooth as possible. Let’s get to it!

Overview of the Problems & their Solutions

ProblemsSolutions
Stiff SafetyAdjust barrel selector to either ‘O’ or ‘U’
Double FiringLean into the gun and maintain a smooth trigger pull
Unaggressive Choke Tube KnurlingConsider aftermarket choke tubes
Failure to FireClean and oil the gun, particularly the chamber

Problems & Solutions for the CZ Swamp Magnum

1. Safety Issue

So, there I was, shotgun in hand, ready to test out this beauty, and bam! The safety just won’t budge.

I mean, I get it; safeties are there for a reason, but this one was like it was glued in the safe on position.

No matter how hard I tried, that little switch was not moving. It was super stiff when I first got the shotgun, and it seems like it decided to take a permanent vacation in the “safe” position. Not cool at all!

Solution

Okay, so here’s the good news. After fiddling around, I found the fix, and let me tell you, it’s almost embarrassingly simple.

All you have to do is check the barrel selector. Mine was stuck between “O” and “U.” I moved it to either of those positions, and the safety switch started working like a charm.

So, if you find yourself wrestling with the safety of your CZ Swamp Magnum, check that barrel selector; it could be the quick fix you need.

2. Double Firing Issue

You read that right. I took this baby for a spin and found out it has a tendency to fire twice when you’re expecting just one shot.

And before you ask, some users have experienced this even after getting it repaired by CZ. So, it’s not a one-off thing. Initially, I thought maybe it was just me, but it became pretty clear that something was up.

If you’re not leaning into the weapon and keeping it steady, a double fire can happen real easily.

Solution

Now for the good stuff, the solution. First off, your stance matters. Try leaning heavily into the gun; it genuinely made a difference for me. But there’s more. Ensure you have a smooth trigger pull and a swift follow-through.

That means get your finger off that trigger as soon as you’ve pulled it. Combined, these tips should help you avoid those pesky double fires. So, if you’ve had this issue, give these a try.

You might just find the quick fix you’ve been looking for.

3. Choke Tube Problem

So, let’s talk about chokes, specifically the choke tube kit that comes with the Swamp Magnum. It was kind of a let down.

First up, the knurling on these tubes isn’t aggressive at all. In fact, it gets pretty slick when you’re out in the field. Doesn’t really instill a lot of confidence, does it? Another thing CZ decided to skip, including a choke with constriction between Modified and Full.

They say it’s because the tubes are steel-shot approved and designed for hunting waterfowl. But come on, not even one tube of a different size?

Solution

Alright, here’s where things get better. If you’re like me and you prefer a more constrictive choke when using steel shot, CZ has a suggestion.

And it works. Simply go for an aftermarket choke tube. I tried it, and let me tell you, it made a world of difference. So, if you’re feeling constrained by the provided choke tubes, going aftermarket is a solid fix. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

4. Failure To Fire

So, here’s another headache: failure to fire, specifically with the second barrel. Yep, that’s a problem you never want in a shotgun. It happened to me, too, and let me tell you, it was a real bummer.

At first, I thought it was a fluke. But then it happened again. Dirt and other debris can get into the gun, making it as unreliable as a weather forecast.

Solution

Now, let’s get to fixing it. I took the gun apart, cleaned it well, and then oiled it up, ensuring there wasn’t a speck of dirt on any part.

Don’t forget the chamber; that needs a cleaning, too. After all that elbow grease, the gun started firing like it should. But listen, if the issue persists, don’t hesitate to see a gunsmith or call CZ directly. Better safe than sorry, right?

Conclusion

Alright, folks, we’ve gone through the ups and downs of the CZ Swamp Magnum. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a well-crafted shotgun overall, but it’s not without its issues.

From safety glitches to double firing problems, we’ve seen them all. But the good news? Most of these issues have workable solutions. I did the testing myself. Simple fixes like adjusting barrel selectors and cleaning the gun can save the day.

This shotgun requires a bit of cleaning to show its true potential.

And if things still don’t go your way, CZ support and professional gunsmiths are just a call away. So, is it perfect? No. But with some care, it can be an excellent companion in the field.
