3 Common Ruger Precision Rifle Problems You Must Be Aware of

Last Update:

I’m a firearm enthusiast who has had the chance to put the Ruger Precision Rifle through its paces out in the field.

I came across a few Ruger Precision Rifle problems that I believe are worth discussing. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill issues, but rather the type that can affect your shooting experience in a significant way.

So, I’ll be diving into problems related to its accuracy, issues with failure to feed, and even some barrel complications. Don’t worry; it’s not all doom and gloom. I’ll also offer some practical solutions for each problem.

Overview of the Problems & their Solutions

Top 3 Ruger PrecisionProblems & Solutions

1. Accuracy Issue

So, let’s talk about the first issue I faced: accuracy. When I was out in the field, lining up those long shots, I noticed the rifle wasn’t as precise as I’d hoped.

Granted, every rifle has a learning curve, but this was something else. Even after getting comfortable with the weight and feel, I found that my shots were often a smidgen off target.

That might not seem like a big deal, but when you’re aiming for tight groupings, even a slight deviation can be frustrating.

Solution

After some trial and error, I realized the issue wasn’t entirely the rifle’s fault. In fact, a good portion of the problem was the scope I was using.

I switched to a higher-quality scope, fine-tuned its settings, and voila! The accuracy improved considerably. If you’re experiencing similar accuracy issues, try investing in a better scope and spend some time at the range fine-tuning it. Trust me, it makes a world of difference.

2. Failure To Feed

Alright, on to the next issue: failure to feed. Now, this is a problem you absolutely don’t want when you’re out shooting. In my experience, I was setting up my shots, pulling the trigger, and then… nothing.

It was like the rifle had stage fright or something. A quick inspection revealed that rounds weren’t feeding correctly from the magazine to the chamber.

Super frustrating, right? This issue didn’t happen just once but multiple times, making it a pretty consistent problem that couldn’t be ignored.

Solution

So, what did I do to fix this? First off, I checked if the magazine was the culprit. I swapped it out with another magazine, and guess what? The problem persisted. That’s when I decided to give the feed ramps a good cleaning.

Sometimes, accumulated grime can mess things up. After cleaning and lightly oiling the feed ramps, the rifle was back in business, feeding rounds like a champ. So if you find yourself in a similar situation, give those feed ramps some TLC, and you should be good to go.

3. Barrel Problem

Last but definitely not least, let’s talk about a barrel issue that caught my attention as soon as I unboxed the rifle.

The barrel wasn’t aligned with the hand-guard rail, off by nearly a quarter-inch. I know, it might sound minor, but it’s a serious problem, especially when you’re aiming for long-range shots. In short, this could make or break your shooting experience.

Solution

I reached out for some advice and got some pretty straightforward instructions. The first thing to do was remove the hand guard and check for a gap where the barrel meets the receiver. Sure enough, there was a small gap.

The next step? Take off the barrel and reposition it. After doing just that, the alignment was spot on. So if you’re dealing with a similar issue, don’t panic. Just get a bit hands-on, and you can correct that alignment in no time.

Conclusion

After putting the Ruger Precision Rifle through its paces, I must say it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The firearm shines in many areas like adaptability and low recoil but has room for improvement in others, particularly accuracy, feed, and barrel alignment.

The good news? The issues I encountered aren’t insurmountable. Upgrading the scope did wonders for the accuracy, a good cleaning solved the feed problem, and a hands-on barrel adjustment cleared the alignment issue.

So while it might require a bit of fine-tuning out of the box, once you get it set up, this rifle is a reliable choice for precision shooting.
