When I first got my hands on the CZ 75 Compact, I was eager to test it in the field. From the get-go, it was clear that this firearm had a lot to offer, but as I spent more time with it, some underlying problems started to surface.

Through rigorous testing and countless hours on the shooting range, I encountered a few CZ 75 Compact Problems that seemed to be a pattern with this model. Among the challenges were a concerning firing pin problem, extraction issue, and the grip issue.

In this article, I’ll dive deep into these problems and share with you the solutions I’ve discovered.

Top 3 CZ 75 Compact Problems & Solutions

1. Firing Pin Problem

Shooting on a typical day, everything seemed fine until the 57th round. Suddenly, the gun stopped and looked like a failure to fire (FTF).

After some inspection, I found that the firing pin, plunger, and spring had fallen out. The firing pin retaining pin was still in the slide, but it had a big groove cut through it.

This was a disconcerting discovery, making me realize how crucial it was to address this problem and find a solution.

Solution

Fixing the firing pin issue wasn’t as complicated as I feared. I took the CZ 75 Compact to a trusted gunsmith.

They changed the firing pin, carefully inspecting the other components to ensure everything was in perfect condition.

It was a relatively quick and cost-effective solution that restored my trust in the firearm and had me back at the range quickly.

2. Extraction Problem

The first time the pistol failed was an experience I’ll never forget. After extracting the cartridge without a problem, the slide pushed the next round, but it didn’t go up through the ramp of the barrel.

Instead, the round got stuck in the lower edge of the ramp. This issue threw me off and made me realize that I needed to find the underlying cause to prevent future disruptions.

Solution

After examining the situation, I realized that Problem #3 was often due to a bad or dirty magazine. The magazine’s top might have been worn, or it might not have been fully seated into the pistol.

Cleaning the magazine’s inside and trying other magazines proved to be the solution. Using new, clean ones resolved the issue, confirming my suspicions that a dirty magazine was the root of the problem.

3. Grip Issue

During my extensive field testing, I stumbled upon an issue with the grippable area of the slide on the CZ 75 Compact.

Since the rails are on the inside of the frame, the area was quite narrow. I found it difficult to grasp the slide at times, which led to some awkward moments.

You’d not want to encounter this, especially when you need quick and efficient handling.

Solution

The solution turned out to be simpler than I initially thought. By using a new grip or applying grip tape, I overcame the narrow area that made grasping the slide difficult. It’s a simple fix that significantly improves the handling of the firearm. Whether you opt for a new grip or grip tape, both solutions provide an immediate and noticeable difference that enhances the overall experience.

Conclusion

The CZ 75 Compact is a well-regarded firearm that comes with its own set of challenges. Through rigorous field testing, I’ve come to appreciate its accuracy and ergonomic design but also recognize its weaknesses.

The problems like the firing pin issue, extraction difficulty, and grip challenge are indeed concerning but not insurmountable.

The solutions I’ve found, such as professional gunsmithing and simple modifications like grip tape, have proven effective remedies.

What sets the CZ 75 Compact apart is how it allows for personal customization and adaptation to overcome its flaws. This firearm remains a robust choice for those willing to invest time and effort to tailor it to their needs.
